The Annales monégasques were founded in 1977 by Franck Biancheri, the princely Palace's Archives and libray curator, along with some Monaco’s history scholars and researchers. The creation of this review draws a parallel with the former publications of the Palace’s Archives, under the reigns of princes Charles III, Albert I and Louis II, when the first two archivists were Gustave Saige and Léon-Honoré Labande.
Each issue highlights different approaches, various themes and periods. The collaboration with researchers is fundamental to offer the readers a contextualized and objective substantive work about Monaco and its princes. Moreover, with a high scientific level, the Annales monégasques are also aimed at a wide audience thanks to a rich and scarce iconography. Trilingual summaries (French, Italian and English) are from now on, included at the end of each article. Some bibliographical references composed of reportings and reviews, present the publication news around the Monegasque history. The section “Document of the year” gives a careful analysis of a distinctive archives document that may echo a remembrance.
